Special Report

As we have reported in our News section Gary has enjoyed success as cast member of the West End production 'Art' ... he has been performing till April 14th and everyone who took the chance to see the show had no regrets.

The whole cast delivered a thoroughly enjoyable performance ... a good laugh was guaranteed with this very witty comedy.

On top of the first class performance you also had the chance to meet Gary before/after the show at the stage door ...

... and if you were lucky there was even time to discuss the play and his character!

Grace & Jane from Birmingham:
"Gary looks so confindent on stage,
you might think he's doing it for years"

Not only those who came to see the perfomances, also Gary enjoyed the whole experience and here are a few comments of his fellow cast member James Gaddas:

"Just wanted to add my own view of Gary......
I acted with him every night in Art for three months, and have to say that he was a joy to work with. Committed, passionate and always eager to explore.
In my opinion, unless he does more theatre, it will be a big loss! Considering that Charlie Lawson and myself had trained and worked on stage throughout our professional careers, I was knocked out by what Gary achieved in his first stage foray.
He also was always willing to make himself available for his many fans who appeared nightly....always ready with a chat at the end of a show even though he needed to get away.
All in all....a great guy.......glad to see it being recognised on the site..."

And last but not least here are some readers' reviews:

Just to say right at the beginning: It ist great!
It’s a very funny theater play originally about a special painting but the more the 3 friends in the play talk about this „white piece of shit" the more it is about their friendship.
I was amazed by the acting of all three actors. But Gary’s bodylanguage was the most impressing thing about it to me. He was so funny sometimes without saying a word.
My favorite part is „the olive-scene". Very very good!!
Two thumps up for the play and all actors!
Everyone who likes a good lough should see it.

The night we saw the play James Gaddas did not perform, which was a shame, but I have to say the actor that took his place (I'm sorry I can't remember his name) did a fantastic job along with Charles Lawson and of course Gary, their characters argued the night away all because one of them had spent a fortune on a white painting, it showed just how fragile friendships can be and how strong, in a very funny way.
I hope we get to see Gary do more theatre work especially comedy, although it is about time he got down to doing another album for us.

I saw it last week and thought it was absolutely brilliant!! I laughed all the way through especially when Yvan (James Gaddas) spoke non stop about his mother for about 5 minutes really fast, it deserved the applause that it got!!! I'd recommend the play to anyone!! Gary Kemp played his role to perfection and was looking extremely lush!!!

Me and my friend Kirsty travelled to London from the west country to see Art and it was amazing. It shows the true meaning of friendship and how nothing works out the way you want it too.The show was about three friends all with different circumstances and different ideas arguing about a white peace of 'SHIT' which was supposed to have different colours in it or so the character of serge thought but to both of his friends it was just a piece of white 'SHIT' although only Mark admitted to thinking this at first and it wasnt until later on that Ivan then also admitted his feelings towards the painting. Which then brought out a lot of hurtful and resentful feelings amongst the three friends, not unlike real friendships only nine times out of ten real friendships don't make up and if they do it takes a long time to restore the trust they originally had
It shows how real friends work, how you lie to protect peoples feelings and if your lucky how to know when to tell the truth.
Id like to say that Charles Lawson and Gary were brilliant,But the stand in that took James gaddas place was exceptional and extremely funny. I would also appreciate it if somebody would let Gary know that navy blue socks do not go with the grey and black that he wears on stage, which if my friend had half the chance she would have borrowed as she was freezing.
Oh and P.S If Gary does read this I only became a fan of his due to my neighbour playing Spandau Ballet tracks and his solo album to get rid of me as I talk to much (Only it backfired on her as I got to love it.)

I was able to catch Gary's play 'ART'. (Friday night, March 16th)  It was fabulous!! I really enjoyed it, and Gary was exceptional in it!! I spoke to him after the show. I am really glad to see him acting again. Something about actors, we like to see our peers pursue their talents and dreams.

I went to see Art as the beginning of February and I thought it was excellent , Gary was brilliant and portrayed his character very well and also James Gaddas was very good especially during the Mother-in-Law scene. They all worked well together which was important as with only 3 actors and no real scenery as such it must be very difficult but myself and the other 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed it.(or should I say 7 as I was 8 and a half months pregnant at the time! )
P.S I eventually had a little boy - Ben - on 9th March

My Aunt and Uncle took me to see art for my 18th birthday as im madly in love with Gary Kemp and I was lucky enough to meet him before the play, I got my photo taken with him and his autograph he was really lovely.  The play was Fab and Gary was brill in it!!!!!!!!

I saw Art for the first time, on Tuesday, March the 27 and I have to say I was too curious to see the way Gary acted on stage to enjoy the play as it deserved…obviously I was positively impressed by the "olives" scene as well, not to mention the range of "neurotic" monologues of the characters…but I did notice the role was especially suitable for Gary, in its typical "what-would-you-know-about-art" attitude, and he even looked really arrogant at times, somehow missing out some of the humour in the play (or was it ME missing it out because I was staring at him…?Most likely!) Not completely convinced of what I saw the first time I went to see the play again on Friday night and I really enjoyed it, having the strong impression Gary was much more relaxed and spontaneous than the previous time, exploiting all his self-explanatory range of facial expressions (!!). Really hope he takes on a theatre career… as well as delighting us with his music every now and then!
