As we have reported in our News section the grand finale of the 'Shell Connection 2004' tour took place at the National Theatre. Among the 10 plays presented was also 'The Bedbug' ... it was an amazing performance by extremely talented young kids from the Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lansdale (Cumbria). Mr Kemp was very pleased and full of praise for their work as well. He stressed that they only got some demos of the songs and did all the arrangements themselves. Gary took the chance to bring all of his family along, so not only his wife Lauren watched but also his Mum and Dad.
The musical itself is more a play with songs in a sort of Brecht style. It's funny and like a typical Snoo Wilson piece full of irony and sarcasm. The songs are very catchy and like all good musical songs give you the feeling you heard them somewhere before. The whole young cast did a marvellous job ... unfortunately there was no chance to take a few photos during the show ... so here's a shot of the whole team at the end, receiving their well deserved applause!
Among those who enjoyed the performance where not only the proud families of those who acted on stage ... also some very big names of English theatre could be spotted in the audience - Patrick Stewart and Alan Rickman had a very good time watching the promising new talents!
At the end Snoo Wilson, Guy Pratt and Gary were called on stage as well and received one of the Shell Connections Cactus Awards ...
After the perfomance there was the chance for discussion and small talk in the bar ...
Gary and Mr Rickman obviously had a lot to chat about ...
It was the most enjoyable evening and our deep respect goes out to the young performers who did such a wonderful and inspiring job!!! |
