Okay, we know, millions and millions of movie goers have seen and loved this film, nevertheless we give it a low rating. How can that be? Well, let us quote the AMG here, one reason are the "plot holes one can drive trucks through". The film may be quite a good 'popcorn movie', but still, the characters are so unreal, the love story is hardly convincing and Kevin Costner is so sickeningly heroic that we had no fun watching this epos. Some of the support cast do a really good job, especially Gary and Ralph Waite, but the hour between Gary's last scene and the Oscar's is so fundamentally boring that the fairly interesting beginning and the action packed ending can't save the film.
What's left in the end is an average flick with a rather annoying last scene. This film marks Mr Costner's direct way to 'Waterworld' and finally 'The Postman' ... let's face it man, there's only so much heroism people can take!!! |
