This is a true gem ... a wonderfully charming and witty film about a group of people who are everything but heroic but amazingly loveble with all their spleens and insecurities. Gary's job was to teach the actors how to behave on stage and how to act as a band, as a unit. Many critics have stated that 'Strange Fruit' come across very very authentic and you can hardly believe that they are not a real band, so obviously Mr Kemp did his job pretty well. Therefore, when the happy end comes along it's not kitschie but remarkably touching and we all join in singing the anthem of everyone who believes in rock'n'roll: 'and the flame still burns ...'
